From the 1930s to the late 1960s, direct dyes and sulfur dyes were primarily used for sweatshirts. The principle behind the fading of vintage clothing is thought to be the oxidation-coupling of airborne oxygen with the amino acids holding the dye, causing hydrolysis that eventually breaks down into carbon and decays. REMI RELIEF's SP processing recreates this natural phenomenon by using traditional direct dyes combined with oxygen to slowly fade the dyes over a long period.While the body of the garment also undergoes some damage, unlike processes that use chemicals or aggressively dissolve fabric with bio-processing, this method results in a look that is closest to the natural aging damage of vintage clothing.
