Introducing orslow's classic TYPE1 40'S PLEATED FRONT BLOUSE (one wash).
In the 1940s, before denim jackets were called "jean jackets," they were known as pleated blouses.
The front pleat design is a remnant of the 1800s.
Fabrics that haven't been pre-shrunk after weaving tend to shrink significantly in the vertical direction. It's said that in the 1800s, fabrics were sewn horizontally, and the width could be increased by undoing the pleats after washing when the fabric shrunk.
Even after the fabric was changed to be used vertically, the design remained and is still carried on today as the front pleat design.
Denim from the 1940s tends to have longer vertical streaks compared to denim from later years. It's unclear whether this is due to differences in how the fibers break down depending on whether the raw cotton was hand-picked or machine-picked, but the appearance of the streaks differs between denim from before the 1940s and denim from the 1950s.
The original denim used in orslow6011 also uses a material with longer vertical streaks than other materials.
For sizes 3 and above, the back is designed as a thong. This design was likely devised in an era when materials were precious and used sparingly, in order to make better use of fabric in larger sizes.
Vintage enthusiasts commonly refer to it as a "T-back."
The silhouette, yoke, and sleeve placement are faithfully reproduced from vintage 1940s garments. The sleeves are set-in sleeves, and there is one flap pocket on the left chest.
The double-action pleats at the front are designed for ease of movement, but they also serve as an important design accent.
The cinch belt at the waist is adjustable, but it also gives the back a striking look. Based on the so-called "first model," the length and pocket placement have been redesigned to match modern styles.
The fabric used is woven using the same methods as over 60 years ago, aiming to create a unique, vintage feel.
Therefore, it has unique slubs (knots) and twists that are not found in modern materials.
It is made with 13.7oz selvedge denim.
