Lot 857 Black, 13.75oz, Black Raw Denim, 100% American Cotton. To be honest, I've hardly ever worn a Type 3 in my life. I had a larger size, like a size 42, but it felt kind of tight when I tried it on. Looking closely, the unique pattern, with its tapered waist and yet large shoulders, just didn't suit me. (It seems like it would suit a muscular American build.) However, recently I got my hands on a 90s corduroy Type 3, probably made in the Valencia factory, and tried it on...it's not bad. It doesn't have that strong waist tapering that's so characteristic of the Type 3. Furthermore, I happened to be looking at my favorite Dr. John's account on Instagram...and he's wearing a Type 3 in a portrait of himself taken by Bruce Weber. It's in black and white so I can't tell the color, but it looks like black denim. At this point, I've started wanting to make one myself. But the problem is the silhouette. I don't want that extremely tapered waist. That's when I realized the 806 Type 1. I took the silhouette of the first jacket, which has no tapering, and applied the design of the third jacket's fabric paneling to it...and that's how I came up with the design. When you see the finished product, the silhouette is almost exactly like the first jacket. Only the shoulders are a little wider than the first jacket. This is because of the direction of the yoke fabric in the shoulder area. The first jacket uses the fabric horizontally, while the third jacket uses it vertically. Because the shrinkage rate of the fabric is different vertically and horizontally, the shoulder width ended up being a little wider, but Dr. John's portrait also shows the third jacket with slightly dropped shoulders, so I'll leave it as is. The fabric is about 13.7 ounces, a WORKERS standard, custom-made indigo denim from Wata. The black is a black where the warp threads are dyed all the way to the core of the yarn. Therefore, the color fades to a grayish color, but no whiskers appear. It doesn't fade in the way you'd expect, so you can wear it on any occasion even after the color has faded. The fabric is the third jacket, but I deliberately chose selvedge, unshrunk, raw fabric. That's why, even though it's a third jacket, it has selvedge on the front and the whole thing is twisted. The product will be delivered after being OW tumble dried and shrunk as much as possible.
