NANGA was founded in 1941 by the previous generation's founder, Akira Yokota, in the Omi region, a production area for silk floss futons. The company name comes from Nanga Parbat, an 8,000-meter-class peak in the Himalayas. NANGA is a 74-year-old Japanese manufacturer of down products, located in Maibara City, Shiga Prefecture, at the foot of Mount Ibuki. Nanga Parbat, at an altitude of 8,126m, is the ninth highest mountain in the world and is also feared as the "man-eating mountain," referring to a difficult mountain to climb that has claimed many lives. The company name reflects the founder's desire to "do it precisely because it is difficult, and climb where no one else will." NANGA's commitment lies in down. Through the know-how cultivated over many years in down selection, washing, and management, they are able to continue to produce warmer down products.
