Description
The Field Shirt Ripstop from WORKERS has arrived. The current military "Marpat Blouse." A camouflage shirt jacket called "Marpat." The camouflage design of the product itself is hard to see, so when you try drawing it, it looks cool. This project was about making this with plain fabric, so that the placement of the pockets and patches would be clearly visible. What's more, they are made at the same factory that normally sews shirts. The thickness of the fabric makes it more suitable for shirt factories. However, the large number of pockets was a problem. This type of product requires a lot of manpower. At that time, the shirt factory relocated and consolidated, increasing production capacity. I thought, "This is the only chance I can get this!", so I had it made. Of course, the manufacturing process is much more involved than with a shirt, so the labor costs are not the same as for a regular shirt, but rather the labor costs for a jacket. We don't want to make things cheaply, but rather choose factories based on the thickness of the fabric, the type of product, and their production capacity at the time. The design features a flap pocket with no gusset on the chest. It closes with Velcro and has a pen holder. The arms have an elaborate design with a flap, hidden buttons, and one gusset. The first thing that has been changed from the original is the silhouette. The original I used as reference was a "Regular length" with a length of about 77 cm. WORKERS is just under 70 centimeters. Point 2: The specifications of the cuffs. The original has buttons fastened inside so that no buttons are exposed to the outside. It was a specification. Although this is the correct design for military uniforms to prevent entanglement, it is difficult to use as street wear, so the buttons have been changed to exposed buttons. The cuffs are quite wide, and in photos of the garment being worn, it can be seen that the sleeves are rolled up above the elbows. The WORKERS version also has thick sleeves. The fabric is 7 oz Coyote/OD Ripstop. A slightly thicker tiger camo lip. The 3oz gingham and 5oz chambray are from WORKERS' familiar "Military yet completely different fabric" series. I would like to use military designs, which in a sense have questionable origins, in a peaceful way. This idea is based on what my late uncle said when he saw Back to the Future: "It's a story, but the romantic thing about it is that nuclear weapons are used not as weapons but as fuel for a time machine." Considering the thickness of the fabric, Ripstop can be worn as soon as mid-summer is over. The size is M, with a chest width of 60cm. The sleeves are also wide. You can wear a thick sweatshirt underneath, so if you wear a coat on top, you can wear it all year round. 3-5 oz gingham/chambray for spring, summer and fall. It's closed in the winter. It's perfect for our generation, who find it inconvenient to wear just a T-shirt. The right page shows the original that was used as reference. It is one of the Marine Corps Combat Utility Uniforms (MCCUU), which were developed and adopted in the 2000s. It is called "MARPAT BLOUSE". "MARPAT" is the name of this camouflage pattern. Since it is camouflage, it is natural that the design is not easy to understand. Its role is to replace the Battle Dress Uniform (BDU), and is similar to the Jungle Fatigue of the past. There are various types with similar designs and roles, such as the Army, Air Force, Marines (and Navy?). Each jacket has a different camouflage pattern on the fabric, a zipper on the front, different cuff specifications, and different pocket placements. current Since they are popular items, they can be purchased for 2,000-3,000 yen, so I bought a variety of them and compared them. Among them, we will be looking at the basic design of the USMC MARPAT BLOUSE. In photos of the actual garment being worn, the sleeves are often rolled up and the top of the front is neatly ironed in to create an open collar. The jacket I used as reference is made by American Apparel. I've also seen American Apparel. Patagonia also makes similar products, which are very elaborate, with action pleats on the back and Velcro openings at the elbows to accommodate elbow pads.
