Description
A classic Modified Fit shirt. The button-down style is inspired by vintage Brks shirts.
The tie fits neatly into the collar stand. Not too high, not too low. The collar flares are neither too long nor too short. "The perfect balance."
No hanger loop, no shoulder yoke stitching. The silhouette has a fitted feel to the body, but it's not too tight.
The shoulder width is neither too low nor too low. The length is around 75 cm, which is a master size that can be worn with the hem tucked in or out. The armhole (vertical measurement) itself has a reasonable amount of room, so it is not tight.
In this way, the dimensions are determined based on functionality, and the pattern is created accordingly. It's not a shirt that's just about design, but a shirt that's designed with engineering in mind.
The material is the classic Supima Oxford series.
The denim is 7.5 ounces; I wanted a shirt that was "for the middle of winter," so I went for something a little thicker. The thinner the denim, the less of a "denim feel" we perceive it to be.
3-5 oz denim feels like "soft chambray."
This is because chambray is a plain weave, while denim is a twill weave.
Plain weave fabrics feel stiffer because they have more thread intersections, while denim, with its 2x1 or 3x1 twill weave, has fewer intersections than the 1x1 plain weave, making it feel more flexible.
The fabric maintains its shape and doesn't fall apart due to the friction between the intersecting threads.
This means that even with the same thickness of yarn and the same number of threads per inch, the texture can differ depending on the weaving method (the number of times the threads intersect).
