From "intch.", we have received the regular collar shirt "Lye," made from plain weave wool "Omi-zarashi." While incorporating distinctive details such as gathers under the yoke and at the cuffs that accentuate the shrinkage of the fabric, a semi-hidden placket that hides only the bottom two buttons, and a square-cut hem that is extended and slit by just 3cm at the back, the overall design is a simple regular collar shirt that can be easily incorporated into any style. This plain weave shrink wool is made in Omi Kamifu, a fabric producing area overlooking Lake Biwa in Shiga Prefecture. This fabric has undergone a process called "Omi-sarashi," in which it is doused in lye, dried in the sun, then boiled in lye and dried again, and the process is repeated over several dozen days, resulting in the fabric's unique wrinkles and softness. Originally, this process was done to make it easier for the dye to penetrate as a preliminary step to dyeing, but "Lye" has made products that retain this unique texture. In addition, since the fabric is thoroughly washed, there is little shrinkage in the finished product and it can be washed at home. The buttons are made from natural shells: the navy uses buttons carved from Takase shell, which has a beautiful luster, and the black uses buttons carved from black lip shell, which is characterized by its deep color. The stitches are 24 and sewn with 60 count thread. While high-end dress shirts typically have around 18 stitches per 3cm, this shirt has a finer stitch count of 24 stitches. It is difficult to make a shirt out of thin wool fabric, and the finer the stitches, the more delicate the technique required, and the number of sewing machines that can handle this is limited. To achieve these specifications, the shirts are sewn at one of Japan's leading shirt-making factories in Nagasaki, which is equipped with skilled craftsmen and specialized equipment. Not only are they skilled, but they also change their sewing methods depending on the fabric and design based on a huge amount of sewing data from the past, making this a top-level factory that symbolizes the high level of Japanese technical ability. We have the skilled and reliable techniques and sensibilities, as well as sewing equipment that can only be found here. On the other hand, they do not actively promote themselves, only accept work through referrals from trusted business partners, and only produce for a limited number of brands.
