Description
We have received a new shipment of "Lye," a regular collar shirt from "intch.", made from plain weave wool using the "Omi-zarashi" technique.
While incorporating distinctive details such as gathers at the bottom of the yoke and cuffs to emphasize the fabric's shrinking texture, a half-placket design that hides only the bottom two buttons, and a square-cut hem with a 3cm extension at the back and a slit, the overall design is a simple regular collar shirt that can be easily incorporated into any style.
This plain-weave shrink wool fabric is made in Omi Jofu, a textile production area overlooking Lake Biwa in Shiga Prefecture.
This fabric undergoes a process called "Omi-zarashi," in which it is sprinkled with lye, sun-dried, boiled in lye, and dried again, repeating this process over several tens of days. The result is a fabric with a unique wrinkled texture and softness.
Originally, this process is used as a preliminary step before dyeing to make it easier for the dye to penetrate, but "Lye" retains this unique texture in its finished products.
Furthermore, because the fabric undergoes a strong washing process, shrinkage in the finished product is minimal, and it can be machine washed at home.
The buttons are made from natural shells; the NAVY version uses buttons carved from the beautifully lustrous Takase shell, while the BLACK version uses buttons carved from the deep-colored black mother-of-pearl.
The stitching is done with 24 stitches per inch, and the thread used is 60-count.
While high-end dress shirts typically have around 18 stitches per 3cm, this shirt features 24 stitches, achieving even finer stitching.
Making a shirt from thin wool fabric is difficult, and the finer the stitches, the more delicate the technique required, limiting the types of sewing machines that can handle it.
To achieve these specifications, the shirts are sewn in Nagasaki, one of Japan's leading shirt-making factories, equipped with skilled craftsmen and specialized equipment.
Not only are the workers highly skilled, but they also adapt their sewing methods based on a vast amount of past sewing data, changing the sewing techniques according to the fabric and design. This factory is a top-level example that symbolizes the high level of Japanese technology.
They possess the reliable skills and sensibilities of seasoned professionals, as well as unique sewing equipment found nowhere else.
On the other hand, they don't engage in aggressive PR, only accept work through referrals from trusted business partners, and produce for only a limited number of brands.
We engage in environmentally conscious and sustainable manufacturing, rather than mass production and mass consumption.
It's not oversized, making it look great on its own, and the supple fabric creates a perfect silhouette that won't interfere with outerwear when worn as an inner layer.
【intch.】 Launched in 2023, this domestic brand's design concept is "last detail, modest, atmos" (subtle, moderate, emotional), and it offers high-quality products with a focus on materials.
