At Riprap, we offer a standard line of formal suits called "HAND-CRAFTED SUIT," maintaining the same fabric and design every season.
This is a button-down shirt from the HAND-CRAFTED SUIT line.
This item is Riprap's take on a traditional button-down shirt, designed to be wearable for both formal and casual occasions.
The fabric used is twill, which is not typically used in dress shirts.
Because it's a cotton twill with an ultra-high density weave, the twill pattern is very fine, giving it a crisp feel and making it resistant to wrinkles. This means you can iron it to give it a sharp look when paired with a suit, and it also looks great worn unironed for casual occasions.
The pattern is a boxy shape with a wide body. Tucking the shirt hem into the trousers creates a relaxed, bloused look. The fit is a classic, relaxed fit.
The stitching is done with very fine stitches, 24 stitches per 3cm, resulting in a beautiful appearance and a durable construction.
The inside of the cuff placket on the sleeves features a kangaroo cuff design. This is a technique I learned when I started production about 10 years ago, and it's designed to ensure the cuff slit fits in the most neatly. The seam width at the side, called a flat-felled seam, is 2-3mm.
The buttons on the white version are mother-of-pearl buttons.
The beige version has natural-colored shell buttons.
The olive and dark navy versions feature black mother-of-pearl buttons.
I believe that basic items are the kind of clothes that can be worn across time and trends, so we've made our dress shirts with a robust finish.
As history has shown, button-down shirts that are well-made in every detail look even better as the fabric becomes worn or frayed.
