Description

From "intch." comes the pullover shirt "Est," made from "Higashi-naki" cotton Burberry cloth. This piece is a re-imagining of a vintage farmer's smock with stylish details. The front has a four-button half placket, box pleats connect to the end of the opening, and there are gathers under the back yoke and at the cuffs, making for a time-consuming design. The design follows French antiques from the early 1900s, and the fabric is made using techniques from the Edo period in Japan, combining elements from different countries and eras to create a shirt that is truly intch. Cotton Burberry cloth is dyed using the "Higashi-naki" method, which is still used in downtown Tokyo to maximize production efficiency, using traditional dyeing machines and techniques. Nowadays, dyeing technology has improved and there are many factories that can dye the fabric consistently, but cotton is traditionally difficult to dye, so we use a special technique that has been passed down since the Edo period, in which cotton is boiled in a small kiln to make it fluffy and then colored. This is a very distinctive material with a slightly worn, natural texture and color, puffiness and randomly etched large and small wrinkles, and a unique, bumpy feel. The stitches are 21 and sewn with 60 count thread. While high-end dress shirts typically have around 18 stitches per 3cm, this shirt features a finer stitch count of 21 stitches. The finer the stitching, the more delicate the technique required, and the number of sewing machines that can handle it is limited. To achieve these specifications, the shirts are sewn at one of Japan's leading shirt-making factories in Nagasaki, which is equipped with skilled craftsmen and specialized equipment. Not only are they skilled, but they also change their sewing methods depending on the fabric and design based on a huge amount of sewing data from the past, making this a top-level factory that symbolizes the high level of Japanese technical ability. We have the skilled and reliable techniques and sensibilities, as well as sewing equipment that can only be found here. On the other hand, they do not actively promote themselves, only accept work through referrals from trusted business partners, and only produce for a limited number of brands.
