WORKERS USN Baker Vintage Fit Brown Back Denim

These pants are based on vintage clothing commonly known as "US Navy Baker Pants" (hereinafter referred to as "USN Baker" for clarity). Tracing the original, the overall silhouette is very similar to "Trousers, Cotton, Sateen," the so-called Baker pants. However, there are differences. While regular Baker pants don't have darts and use waist buttons to cinch the waist, USN Baker pants have darts on the back. The front pockets are similar in shape, but on USN Baker pants, the pockets are sewn to the inside. The waistband is also different; in regular Baker pants, the waistband is a continuous piece with a facing on the inside, while on USN Baker pants, a separate piece is attached in a band shape. The back pockets on USN Baker pants also lack flaps...so while they seem similar, the specifications are subtly different. However, because the shape of the front pockets is very similar, and deadstock pieces found in the past had the familiar US Navy military label, they are probably called "US Navy Baker pants." The material is 10 ounce denim. The weft threads have a brownish tint, giving the fabric an overall dark, almost black appearance. This is a feature seen in old military denim, and it's unclear whether the weft threads were intentionally colored, or if the color simply "accidentally" transferred to the threads because they were made from colored cotton. However, when you look at old military denim, the whole thing is indeed dark and almost black. The muted tones mean that dirt doesn't stand out as much. "Brown Back Denim" was created to imitate such a fabric. Back satin is a familiar material from our usual baker line. Originally, about 15 years ago, I had someone at a fabric shop make it for me based on the original MIL-C-10296J specifications. The weight of the fabric, the number of threads per inch, and the way the threads intersect. I used the specifications, such as using carded yarn, as a reference, and dyed the fabric with sulfur dyes at the time. Initially, the fabric used sulfur dyes that faded excessively, but these were discontinued, and then replaced with sulfur dyes that were less prone to fading. Later, sulfur dyes themselves became almost obsolete, and now the fabric is dyed using vat dyes. While vat dyes generally don't fade easily, puckering occurs in certain areas, and as the fabric wears down, it becomes fuzzy and creates shadows. The overall look doesn't become whitish, but rather has a well-defined, shading effect. The Vintage Fit is the same as the original, with a 25cm hem width. The fabric doesn't cling to the legs, making it cool. The Slim Fit has the exact same waist as the Vintage Fit. The legs are narrower from the crotch down, creating a line that can be called "Slim" for this style with a 20cm hem width. The product is pre-washed.
