Weapon fabric is treated with cold mercerization, a process that involves passing the fabric through a low-temperature caustic soda solution during the manufacturing stage to increase its strength and give it a glossy, crisp texture.
"Weapon" is an abbreviation for West Point, and the fabric is so named because it originates from the uniform of the U.S. Army West Point Military Academy.
Unlike chino fabric, which uses single-ply yarn, weapon fabric is made with double-ply yarn, resulting in a durable fabric with superior luster.
