After years of requests, we've finally created Lot 801, a pair of straight-leg black jeans. A familiar WORKERS favorite, these jeans are "custom-made from the cotton." Made with American mid-length cotton, they feature an uneven yarn pattern inspired by the thread shape of vintage jeans. The warp threads are sulfur-dyed, while the weft threads are the color of the cotton itself. The thread count is set to a target weight of approximately 13.75 ounces. With repeated washing, the black threads fade to gray. Unlike indigo, the black threads are dyed all the way through, so they don't fade in a "bakiki" way, but rather fade throughout. However, areas that rub against the fabric will whiten, revealing the selvedge. We apologize, but starting this season, we'll be increasing the price of the black fabric. The reason is that the fabric is priced differently from indigo. Indigo is dyed in large quantities using a method called "rope dyeing," which keeps costs down. In contrast, black is dyed using a method called "cheese dyeing," in which the threads are gently rewound and dyed in a kiln. The cost per dye is extremely high! The fabric is 1.5 times more expensive than indigo. Until now, we've been forcing indigo and black to be the same price, but starting in September 2022, we will be changing the price of black for both 801 and 802 to 20,000 yen + tax. Black bottoms are virtually indistinguishable from any outfit. They look great with an indigo denim jacket or a military-style top. They also pair well with a tweed-like jacket.
