This is the third version of the Deluxe Tote. The changes this time are the width of the handle attachment and the outer pocket. The original Deluxe Tote comes in M ​​and L sizes, and the difference is that the M size has a narrower handle attachment (no outer pocket), while the L size has a wider handle attachment (with an outer pocket). This time, as an adaptation, the body is the M size, but the handle attachment position and outer pocket are the specifications of the original L size. In other words, the specifications have been mixed. Accordingly, we have also made two types of handles, short and long. With the original attachment width being narrow, it was difficult to put the bag on your shoulder no matter how long you made the handles. By widening the handle attachment width, the long handles are now a very easy-to-use size. There is one subtle change from the last version. The handle tape has been changed from acrylic to cotton rayon power loom tape, which is thicker than before. As usual, I "searched and searched" and found the manufacturer (surprisingly, it's nearby). I now have a clear understanding of things that I couldn't understand from the accessory supplier before. Even though it's all called "tape," the texture changes considerably depending on the equipment and the type of yarn. Even within the "same" range, the looms are actually different. This tape is the thickest I've ever used. The "spun rayon" in "cotton-spun rayon" is short for "staple fiber," and it's apparently also called "spun rayon" or "short-fiber rayon." The size is 34cm wide, 16cm deep, and 31cm high. It's what you'd call a medium size. The handles are about 30cm for the short version and about 60cm for the long version. The handles are sewn onto the tape using the same fabric as the bottom. This is also done with a two-needle sewing machine, folding the left and right sides of the fabric while making sure it sits in the middle of the tape. Equipment is everything! So, this time too, I went all the way to the factory in northern Kanto. Of course, it's made in Japan. I've been there three times, so the president finally remembers my "face." He probably only vaguely remembers the brand name. But Ms. M from production management liked it so much that she bought a WORKERS bag, so it's all good. This "being remembered by the factory" is surprisingly important. There are things that just can't be written down in the specifications, like the tension of the thread, the neatness or roughness of the finishing. It's not enough to create something that makes you think, "This is the kind of construction that person would like." The edges of the fabric are folded and sewn alternately on the sides. This forms the frame of the bag, allowing it to stand on its own even when empty. The main body is made of No. 4 canvas, equivalent to 20.8 ounces. The bottom and the part that rests on the tape are made of No. 11 canvas, equivalent to 12 ounces. The weight is about 650g. With this tote bag, I didn't want to make it exactly the same as the original, but rather "to make something that comes close to the original, and in some ways even surpasses it, using Japanese standards." I think the neatness of the stitching completely surpasses the original. As expected from a Japanese sewing factory. The weave of the fabric is also beautiful. The tape is supple and easy to hold. However, the original has its own roughness and toughness in the fabric and parts. The stitching is rough, with the attitude of "it's fine as long as it doesn't break." That has its own charm.
