Description

We have received a new shipment of Field Shirt Ripstop from WORKERS.
The current military "Marpat Blouse." A shirt jacket with a camouflage pattern called "Marpat."
Camouflage patterns don't really show the product's design well, so if you try drawing it as a design sketch...it looks cool.
This project explores what would happen if we made this out of plain fabric, so that the placement of pockets and linings would be clearly visible.
Furthermore, the factory that makes them is the same one that normally sews shirts.
In terms of fabric thickness, the shirt factory's fabrics are a better fit for me.
However, the sheer number of pockets was a problem. These kinds of products require a lot of manpower. Just then, a shirt factory relocated and consolidated its operations, which boosted production capacity.
I had it made because I thought, "It's now or never!" Of course, since the manufacturing process is much more complex than that of a shirt, the labor cost is not the same as for a regular shirt, but rather the cost of making a jacket.
It's not about finding the cheapest option; we're choosing factories based on factors like fabric thickness, product type, and their current production capacity.
The design features a flat, flap pocket on the chest, secured with Velcro, and includes a pen holder. The sleeves have an elaborate design with flaps, hidden buttons, and a single gusset.
The elbows have patches. One change from the original: the silhouette.
The original garment used as a reference was a "Regular length" with a length of about 77 cm, but WORKERS made it just under 70 cm.
Point 2, the specifications of the cuffs. The original design had buttons fastened on the inside so that no buttons were visible on the outside.
While the design is correct for preventing snagging in a military uniform, it's impractical for everyday wear, so the buttons were changed to exposed buttons.
The cuffs are quite wide, and in photos of people wearing the garment, they often roll them up to above the elbow.
The WORKERS version also has wide sleeves.
The fabric is a 7-ounce Coyote/OD Ripstop.
A slightly thicker tiger camo lip.
The 3-ounce gingham and 5-ounce chambray are part of WORKERS' familiar "military-style fabrics that are completely different" series.
I want to peacefully utilize designs that have a somewhat risky origin, such as military-related items.
This is rooted in something my late uncle said after watching Back to the Future: "Even though it's a story, using nuclear weapons not as weapons, but as fuel for a time machine, is so romantic." Just a side note.
Considering the fabric thickness, Ripstop can be worn as soon as the peak of summer is over.
The size is M, with a chest width of 60cm. The sleeves are also wide. You can wear a thick sweatshirt underneath, so you can wear it year-round if you wear a coat over it.
3-5 oz gingham/chambray is suitable for spring, summer, and autumn.
It's off-limits in winter. Perfect for our generation, for whom wearing just a T-shirt is inconvenient in many ways.
The right page shows the original design used as a reference. It's one of the Marine Corps Combat Utility Uniforms (MCCUU), which were developed and adopted in the 2000s.
It's called "MARPAT BLOUSE," etc. "MARPAT" is the name of this camouflage pattern. As you might expect from camouflage, the design is not very clear.
Its role is that of a successor to the "Battle Dress Uniform (BDU)." Going back even further, it's similar to the role of the Jungle Fatigue.
Similar designs and roles exist in various branches of the military, including the Army, Air Force, Marines (and possibly the Navy?).
Each garment features a different camouflage pattern, a front zipper, different cuff designs, and varying pocket placements.
Since they are current products and can be purchased for 2,000-3,000 yen, I bought several and compared them.
Among them, we'll be using the USMC Marpat Blouse, with its basic design, as our reference this time.
In actual photos of people wearing the garment, you often see them with the sleeves rolled up and the top edge of the front neatly ironed over to create an "open collar" look.
The sample I used as a reference was made by Proper. I've also seen American Apparel make similar products. Patagonia also makes this type of product, and theirs are very elaborate, with action pleats on the back and Velcro openings on the elbow pads to accommodate elbow pads.

Authentic replica clothing born from an overwhelming passion for vintage wear.
WORKERS is a menswear manufacturer based in Okayama, focusing on workwear, traditional, and military styles.
Takashi Tateno, the representative who loves the unique atmosphere of vintage clothing, has researched actual vintage clothing.
We visit the manufacturers where the products were made and even the existing buildings to research their history and documents, using them as inspiration for our product development.
All products are made in Japan, and I understand the process myself.
Production is carried out only in factories equipped with specialized equipment for each stage of the process.
It's attracting a lot of attention not only from Japan, but also from globally recognized companies like J.CREW and INVENTORY.
